Auto Start Stop Explained

Why does it exist?

Part of the course that tests MPGs has a significant number of sections where the car must stop for a period of time. The Auto Start Stop helps by an average of 1 MPG.

Why is it dumb?

This system GREATLY increases the number of times that the battery and starter motor must start your car.  The cost of repairing things is more than the gas saved.

Free Solution

Simply press the button each time you start the car. Alternatively, you can be gentle on the brake pedal when stopped.

$30 Solution

You can buy a simple device that automatically presses the button for you. It is available here on Amazon. This is the one that I'm using now. It is nice because you don't need to remove the button panel or connect a fuse tap. Here is my install video on YouTube.

$60 Solution

There's a new version that does not require a fuse tap. I just ordered one and I will share the results soon.
