How to Remove the Hood Decal Sticker

Why should I keep it?

It is the easiest way for someone to identify your Subaru as a Wilderness model. Under very precise circumstances, it will reduce the light that is reflected into your eyes.

Why should I remove it?

The color of paint changes with time and exposure to the elements. In a few years, when the decal peels, the paint that is revealed will be a different color. Also, you might not like the look of the sticker.

What do I need to remove the sticker?

You will need some plastic razor blades for scraping and some purpose made vinyl adhesive remover.  I got the 4 oz bottle, but it was not enough. I suggest the 32 oz bottle. This stuff worked better than Goo Gone, but neither of them damaged the paint or clear coat. You will also need some paper towels and/or microfiber cloths. The cost is the same for you, but Amazon gives me a small cut of their profits as a referral reward. Use the links to stick it to Jeff Bezos, haha.

What is the process?

First, you should do this on a warm/hot day in direct sunlight. The heat will help soften the adhesive, and the direct light will help you see the adhesive. Start by using a scraper to peel up a top corner of decal. Now peel the decal toward yourself. You might need to use the scraper to start the other top corner too. Once the decal is removed, you need to saturate the residual adhesive with the product. The key here is to let it soak for 30 minutes. Every 10 minutes you should apply more remover to keep everything wet. Next, use a scraper to remove the jelly-like dissolved adhesive. Once most of it is gone, wipe the area clean using more product. I then cleaned the whole hood with windex to remove the oil. Then I waxed the hood.
